RIVA OLYMPIC

RIVA OLYMPIC

ATHLETIC PROWESS

  • The Riva Olympic was launched in 1969 as a replacement for the pinnacle of the long-lived Florida range, the popular Super Florida model. Taking its name from the 1968 Olympics held in Mexico, Riva’s athletic new model targeted clients looking for a modern utility boat with classic styling and construction that was not only beautiful and contemporary in appearance but also nimble and sporty enough to make a formidable boat for water-skiing.

Sharing much in common with the Junior which, would remain in production until 1972, the Olympic was to be the final all new wooden motor-boat to be designed and built by Cantiere Riva.  At 6.55 metres in length with classic Riva mahogony decking and sides, the Olympic could be readily distinguished from other models in the range by the white panels to the rear of the otherwise all wooden sides.  The dashboard was mahogany and the instruments VDO, as per the Super Florida. The wheel of the Olympic was now positioned fully to the left whereas the Junior's wheel had been positioned just to the left of the centreline. The upholstery of the early examples was turquoise and white changing to blue skai later on.   Powered by the Riva badged 220PS V8 motor the sporting Olympic was capable of 71kph.  Cantiere Riva built 274 examples of the Olympic during its 11-year production although the vast majority were constructed during the first years of its life.

For those looking for the perfect combination of classic Riva styling with a modern twist, sufficient power on hand for some highly enjoyable and dynamic motor boating with the perfect layout for water-skiing, the Olympic represents an extremely good choice.
